The single best thing I have done for my practice, since becoming licensed in 2009, was to seek mentoring, support and guidance in the form of group and individual supervision. My personal work has helped to prevent burnout and provided direction in my professional life but also provided significant healing in my personal life. Over the past 7 years of providing clinical supervision to social workers seeking thier license, I have experienced so much joy seeing the transformation of thier clinical practice. I am now offering to work individually and in small groups with social workers, therapists or any healer interested in self-examination and/or practice mentorship.
What therapist have to say....
"I learned SO MUCH meeting with Melissa and my supervision group. I have always struggled in a group setting to share my feelings and be completely open. As a therapist, I always was much better at listening to others and struggled to share my own "stuff." With Melissa's support, and my fellow therapists encouragement - I always felt supported to share my experiences, challenges and goals. I was also able to share good news, new insights and confront parts of my practice that needed the outside perspective that one can only obtain from others in the field. Not only did I grow as a clinician, but came out of Melissa's groups feeling inspired to be a better version of myself. Thanks so much Melissa!" ~Corina Manders, LCSW
"Clinical Supervision was paramount to the shaping and honing of my clinical therapeutic skills. It was a safe place to bring my questions and concerns and receive constructive feedback. It was also a place to share my fears and reservations about this new career path as a psychotherapist. Having a group of peers on this same path and sharing their knowledge and experiences gave me a strong foundation to draw from during my clinicals, during my exam prep, and even now that I’m licensed. I can honestly say that I went from initially being terrified of not knowing what to do when a client first walks into my office to being very confident in my ability to assess and handle any issue that walks through my door. That is a result of skilled and concrete guidance.
Melissa is an outstanding Clinical Supervisor. She is exceptionally knowledgeable in her field, she is non-judgmental and compassionate, yet firm. I think its also important to note that she makes herself available on a regular basis.
Clinical Supervision is a requirement However, a professional and skilled Clinical Supervisor is invaluable."
~Dorothy Milton, LCSW
"I am so glad that I sought out clinical supervision with Melissa when I wasn’t able to receive it at my place of employment. I am happy not only because supervision allowed me to receive my license, but also it gave me much needed clinical and professional support. Supervision was a place where I could process complicated cases, explore my feelings about clients and my work environment, and have much needed discussions about difficult ethical decisions. Melissa helped me build my confidence as a clinical social worker and provided me with insight into the job market as an LCSW. Melissa was supportive but also direct when necessary, which I appreciate. I left supervision with more knowledge, confidence, and pride in being a social worker.
I also benefited greatly from group supervision. I was able to get a multitude of perspectives by sharing supervision with other social workers who worked with various populations and in diverse settings. I learned from what they brought to supervision and from their thoughts about what I brought to supervision. " ~Shara Kaszovitz, LCSW
